“What options does the US President have for moving stalled Governors along to re-open after COVID-19 shutdown: using Option Solving?

Increasing numbers of states are opening their economies, although others are still adhering to lockdowns in their quests to pretty much eliminate the virus. There are those who argue that by retaining the lockdown they are risking the lives of so many others through suicide, lack of treatment for other illnesses, and family abuse. People are also getting stressed out through financial worries and the economy is deteriorating all the time. The US President is anxious to restore the economy, although a certain number of Governors are happy to resist this pressure for their own reasons. The question is: Will he find a way to nudge them to reopen their State economies?

His most appropriate question to move things forward appears to be: “What options does the US President have to move stalling Governors along to re-open after COVID-19 shutdown ; considering 1) could politically backfire, 2) need to find right arguments, 3) put safety first, and 4) avoid economic bankruptcy?” We have again opted for four key considerations that are most likely to affect his decision.  By keeping it to four, it reduces the complexity of his decision-making and recommendation when the moment arrives: despite there being others.

We then put together two yin and yang “bookends,” as these will help his team’s intuitive minds to remain focused. Bookends such as these are vital for preventing our fertile intuitive minds from wandering and losing concentration. We are mostly unaware of how powerfully valuable but foot-loose our intuition can be unless we can properly keep it focused.

Our bookends turned out to be: “Turn blind-eye toward stalling states”big risk to economic health, and “Shame stalling States over ineffectiveness,” could be political backlash. We italicized detractors associated with these least likely options. Even so, they will nudge ours/President’s intuitive thinking into high gear – see our Latest Worked Example.

Having challenged ourselves to produce at least five realistic options, you will see we produced six – prior to any emotional distancing, which is a form of objective thinking, before making our choice …perhaps after 2 hours, later in the day, or first thing tomorrow morning. You can replace our proposed options with any of your own. You can see one of our/his team’s options as: Option B –Create a temporary testing army.

We will do our best to convey this pictograph to the President and his advisors to make a collective decision based upon their anonymous votes: if that were possible. From there his team can put an action initiative together, while things are still fresh in their minds, to implement their-his decision.
